A city which has transformed itself through the ages into a very modern 21st century city in the North of England. In 2002 Manchester hosted a very successful XVII Commenwealth Games and today the city has a modern and upmarket feel to it leaving behind its industrial past. Some areas have undergone extensive regeneration programmes and many million-pound lofthouse apartments have since been developed to cater for its growing business community and Beetham Tower provides the highest residential accommodation in the UK. There is a wonderful cosmopolitan atmosphere in the city but it is Manchester's football and musical heritage which dominates. Be careful what you wish for because you may bump into Gary Barlow from Take That or the Gallagher brothers from Oasis, but whatever your planning strategy be sure to include a moment of glory on the pitch at Old Trafford.
